(6 abr. 1890, Kediri, Java, Indias Orientales Holandesas–23 dic. 1939, Nueva York, N.Y., EE.UU.).

Diseñador y fabricante de aviones estadounidense de origen holandés. Construyó su primer avión en 1910 y aprendió solo a volar. En 1912 estableció una pequeña fábrica de aviones cerca de Berlín. En la primera guerra mundial produjo cerca de 40 tipos de aviones para Alemania, después de haber ofrecido sus diseños a ambos bandos. También diseñó un sistema de engranajes que permitía a una ametralladora disparar a través del campo de giro de una hélice. En 1922 se trasladó a EE.UU. y abrió una fábrica de aviones, en la que produjo numerosos aviones comerciales que fueron empleados por la nueva industria estadounidense de la aviación comercial, en pleno desarrollo.
